Campus Countdown Day 2: Budgeting and Financial Aid Day

I once heard a comedian say ‘going to the ATM is similar to going to a slot machine – please, please have some money in my account.’ Many in the crowd clapped and nodded their head in agreement.

This is NOT something we want to happen to you.  Today, devote an hour or two to planning your fall budget, as well as contacting the financial aid office to know the exact amount of money you are receiving for the Fall semester.

    Determine your budget.

    1.  Start with a simple sheet of paper.  At the top of your paper write the word EXPENSES.   List all your expenses for the Fall Semester.

    Common Expenses

    • Tuition
    • Dorm/Apartment Rent
    • Dining Hall Cost
    • Food Cost (if in apartment)
    • Groceries (both dorm and apartment)
    • Electricity (if in apartment)
    • Water (if in apartment)
    • Books
    • Supplies for class
    • Car + gas
    • Car/Health Insurance (if you are not on your parents insurance)
    • Credit Card (minimum payment)
    • Phone
    • Computer Updates/Repairs
    • Organization Dues
    • Clothing
    • Going Out Money
    • Restaurants
    • Hair Care/Manicure

    2.  After making your list, determine the dollar amount of each FIXED category.  Fixed expenses are ones you know the exact dollar amount and will not change.  Examples include rent, tuition, phone bill, organization dues, etc. You will notice many of your categories are still blank.

    3.  You determine your INCOME for the fall semester.  First, call financial aid to determine your scholarship, grant, and loan amount for the semester.  Second, add in your income from your summer job and/or fall job.  This is your TOTAL INCOME.

    4.  After determining your INCOME, ‘fill-in-the blank’ of your remaining expenses while making sure your EXPENSES does not go over your INCOME.

    5.  Follow this list for the Fall semester to stay on budget!

    Getting to Know Shelly…

May is one of our favorite months here at College Lifestyles.  It is the month where we get to specially honor our fabulous CEO, Shelly Marie Redmond, as May was dubbed “her month” by interns in 2010.  Being a Registered Dietitian/Author/Speaker, the Executive Director of College Lifestyles, a member of the American Dietetic Association, and a wife/Mommie, this classy lady is always on the go.  A native of Houma, Louisiana, she currently resides in Shreveport, Louisiana with her husband Greg and eight week old daughter, Mireille. Shelly attended both Nicholls State University and Louisiana Tech University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, her Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, and completed her Dietetic Internship.  There she was also involved with Student Programming and Residence Hall Association.  She was a member of the sorority Alpha Sigma Tau, where she now currently serves as the organization’s National Vice President.  Shelly has also written a book, Eat Well and Be Fabulous, that is a must read for any classy woman.

Her inspiration to form College Lifestyles developed in 2003 when she began working with interns from Louisiana Tech University.  She highly enjoyed working with students, so began to travel to educate students on etiquette, nutrition and sorority life, in addition to working with her interns.  While she enjoyed this to a high degree, she did not like leaving the students to fend for themselves once she had completed her visit.  She had a desire to “develop resources for students to visit” once she left their schools.  Shelly says, “In researching college ‘sites’ and ‘resources,’ I realized none had the ‘classy’ theme I discussed when working with students.”  Shelly decided to create the website she envisioned herself, and College Lifestyles was formed in 2008.

Ten years down the road, where does Shelly envision College Lifestyles?  In her words, “a full fledge on-line magazine and resource for college students from freshman year to graduate school.”  Shelly believes goals make the difference, and therefore is willing to adapt and change the College Lifestyles website to accommodate students for the years to come.

Favorite sorority/sisterhood memory: It happened after graduation!  Being elected to serve as National Vice President!

I love being the CEO of College Lifestyles because: I LOVE working with students and interns!  The best part is seeing how they use the experience of writing and PR and taking the experience to the next level!  I feel so good when I see others succeed!

What I love MOST about College Lifestyles: The fact CL has stayed true to our ‘classy’ brand.  College Lifestyles has never left our humble beginnings nor deviated from our mission.  Plus, I love working with such fabulous young women!  Mireille has such wonderful women to look up to!

    Speaking of Miss Mireille…

Shelly’s daughter, Mirelle Claire Redmond, was born on March 16th (She is 8 weeks old, today!).  Mireille enjoys taking pictures, cooing, smiling, and bathtime, and is better known by some as “Meems” and/or “Blueberry.”  She likes the color pink and her fashion style is ladylike, as she enjoys wearing headbands with flowers.  She enjoys when her Mommie dresses her up, sings to her, and soothes her to sleep.  She also enjoys physical activities, such as tummy time, with her Daddy.  Mireille looks forward to being a future College Lifestyles lady because she wants to a classy lady, just like her sweet Mommie.  We love you, Mireille!

Shelly’s Interns Think the World of Her!

As interns at College Lifestyles, we are blessed to call Shelly our CEO.  Shelly desires to see us succeed, both as interns for College Lifestyles and in our personal lives as well.  What some of Shelly’s interns have to say about her:

“Shelly has such a beautiful heart.  She has taught me so much, taking me under her wing as one of her interns.  The amount of patience Shelly shows with each of us is phenomenal, as well as the amount of understanding she demonstrates.  I am blessed by the wisdom she has shared with me, and am grateful to have been a part of the College Lifestyles family for the last year.” -Abby Bryant

Shelly is not only a wonderful person, but she is also a great director for College Lifestyles! Her passion shows in every aspect of her work and life. Even though she just had a baby, she is still keeping up with all of her wonderful interns to make sure we stay on the same page. Her upbeat, positive attitude always puts a smile on my face and makes me want to go above and beyond. Shelly is an amazing person who truly deserves all the great things in life! I love Shelly because she’s like the house mom for our second sorority as CL interns. She is such an inspiration and such a wonderful person. She’s so good at being able to bounce ideas off of, and she has such faith in each and every one of us to run with our ideas. I couldn’t ask for a better person to learn from because she’s so incredibly passionate about what she does, and whether she realizes it or not, she instills that same passion in her interns. We love you “Mama” Shelly!” -Jacqui Brown

I love Shelly for how sweet, caring and hardworking she is. Nothing slows her down, and it is truly amazing to see someone accomplish so much and do it with such genuine character and devotion, all while maintaining a family. I love working at College Lifestyles for how much creativity and room to grow it has given me, as well as having a wonderfully supportive network of interns and an awesome CEO. I know this is corny because it gets said all the time, but Shelly is an inspiration to all of us.” -Jessica Salerno

I love Shelly because she really makes us girls feel comfortable working for her. Though it is a job (and an awesome one at that!) I feel like I can talk to Shelly about anything and that she is our biggest cheerleader! She’s been a positive presence in my life since my phone interview before I even became an intern, and I’m a better person for knowing her! Shelly is a very special person and a positive inspiration in my life. I look up to her professionally, but most importantly I admire her strong character. She is loved by many and for very good reasons. I feel incredibly lucky that I came across College Lifestyles because it provided me with opportunities to grow as a writer and a person. Shelly has created a tremendous website and organization and I am proud to be a part of it. She is a wonderful person with a lot of talent and joy to share with the world!” -Maggie Young

“I love working for CL with Shelly because as interns we don’t just work FOR her, we work with her! She always asks for input on ideas she has or asks us for new ideas. It’s nice to have that kind of interaction as an intern! She truly values our opinions, and makes us feel special!” -Patrice Basso

Filed under CL ExCLusives!, The Dish, The Intern Dish

Bring on the hot cocoa and sugar cookies!  It’s the time of the year where cuddling under a warm blanket with our favorite pajamas is calling out to us!  We are talking about Holiday Movies!  From a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving to A Christmas Story, the College Lifestyle interns reveal…..

    Charlie Brown Christmas!

‘What is your favorite Holiday movie?’

It’s hard to choose my favorite holiday movie when I love them all.  Right now, I would have to say its Fred Claus.  My friend Gillian and I have a tradition, on Thanksgiving night I go to her house and we watch Fred Claus together.  It’s the first holiday movie of the season that I watch!

    ~ Stephanie C

    Elf!

    ~Dana S

A Charlie Brown Christmas is one of my favorite holiday movies! My mom and I watch it every year and it has become somewhat of a tradition. :-) We love the music that goes along with it, too, so often times, when we’re baking cookies, the soundtrack is playing! I also enjoy The Muppet Christmas Carol and Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas! All of these movies are favorites at my house during the holiday season! :-)

    ~Becky A

Elf and Home Alone (the first one of course!)

    ~Erin P

    A Christmas story

    ~Sarah F

Hands down, my favorite holiday movie is Love Actually!

    ~Alex P

    The original rudolph!!

    ~Maryn L

My favorite holiday movie is The Year Without a Santa Claus. My mom and I look forward to seeing it every year and we always sing along with the Mr. Heat/Snow Miser songs. :)

    ~Kat M

    Miracle on 34th Street!

    :-) Kristin

My favorite holiday movie is The Grinch!! (Jim Carrey version).  It’s the funniest, most heart-warming Christmas movie there is for me :)

    -Kelsey B

I have so many favorites! Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, Home Alone and the old classics like Rudolph and Year without A Santa Claus are just a few. :)

    ~Kaitlyn K

Emmet Otter - Our CEO's Favorite!

My favorite holiday movie is definitely The Santa Clause!

    ~Christine K

Probably the hardest question. Hmm, It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, or Christmas Vacation, all classics in their own way.

    ~Audrey W

My absolute favorite holiday movie would have to be The Muppets Christmas Carol! Following in second place is Elf. My mom and I make it a tradition to watch both of those on Christmas Eve night.

    ~Sam C

    Home Alone

    ~Sam S

It’s a tie between Elf and The Family Stone! Elf is light hearted while The Family Stone is a little more dramatic. It just depends on my mood!

    ~Leslie C

    The Holiday!

College Lifestyles Announces the TSM Campaign

College Lifestyles is proud to announce it’s TSM Campaign!  What is this classy campaign all about?  How can you bring this to your school and sorority chapter?  What can you do to TSM? Watch our video and read on….

    Video:  TSM Campaign

    What is the TSM Campaign?

The TSM Campaign stands for ‘Text Sweet Messages.’ The TSM Campaign was brainstormed by the Executive Director/CEO of College Lifestyles, Shelly Marie Redmond, as a way to bring a ‘thank you’ or a ‘sweet message’ to someone by just using their mobile phone.  With over 5 million mobile phones worldwide, and 1 million text messages sent daily, wouldn’t it be nice to make a promise to send a ‘TSM’ daily.  In less than 30 seconds (the average time to text a message), you have the incredible feeling of making someone’s day and showing them you care.

Sadly, just in the last few weeks, our world has been shocked by the misuse of mobile phone devices for harassment and bulling.  To combat the issues of ‘mean girls,’ we are encouraging all to start using their mobile phone devices for the greater good of all – spreading messages of joy and compassion.

The TSM Campaign fits easily into the mission of College Lifestyles, ‘Nutrition, Etiquette, and Lifestyles for Classy Co-Eds and Sorority Ladies.’ College Lifestyles promotes all to live their lives with class and civility, and this campaign not only promotes modern day etiquette practices but also the power of class and poise in today’s college lady.

When does the TSM Campaign start?

The classy interns of College Lifestyles have already begun TSMing!

12/7/10 is TSM day!  12/7/10 is the day we are asking all to make the promise to TSM their loved ones, friends, and sorority sisters.

What are some simple examples of TSM’s I can use?

Simple TSM’s include messages such as ‘You’re wonderful,’ ‘Have a super day,’ and even the fun ‘:)’

    Other ideas include:

    • Finals week and GRE.  Sending a simple message wishing good luck.
    • Job interviews.  Sending a message the night before wishing good luck.
    • After a break up.  Sending a message on how much the person means to you.
    • After a bad test.  Sending a simple message on how you want to help with studying or how you can assist.
    • Birthdays and Holidays.

How can I use TSM in my sorority chapter or organization?

College Lifestyles is developing a PDF your chapter can specifically use discussing not only the benefits of TSM, but simple ways sisters can incorporate TSM into chapter programming.

    Ideas include:

    • Signing up for a ‘text service‘ for a motivational ‘Tuesday TSM‘ message to all sisters.
    • Birthday wishes to sisters.
    • Holiday wishes to sisters.
    • And many more……

    Does TSM really work?

Yes!  Many people would agree ‘feeling good’ after doing ‘something good.’ Scientific research relates to the fact of not only feeling good, but an improvement in mental, emotional, and physical health.  Researcher Allan Luks’s significant findings on the topic of doing good can give one an increased sense of self-worth, greater happiness, and optimism, as well as a decrease in feelings of depression.  An act as simple as a TSM promotes being kind and compassionate to those in our lives.

In addition, TSM has the incredible beauty of being ‘passed on’ and ‘rippled’ to another individual.  Similar to the individual who starts the ripple of ‘paying for the person’s coffee behind them at a local Starbucks,’ folks who receive a TSM can send one to another friend!

How can I get my sorority, organization, or high school more involved?

College Lifestyles CEO/Executive Director, Shelly Marie Redmond, is happy to travel to your sorority chapter or organization to present the TSM Campaign:  Bringing Class, Compassion, and Civility into the 21st Century!

We encourage you all to show the video to your organizations and take pictures of your activities to submit to the College Lifestyles website.

In December, College Lifestyles will be hosting our ‘TSM Campaign Contest,’ asking the following to submit stories for publication on our website on how the ‘TSM’d:’

    -Individuals

    -High Schools/High School Organizations

    -Sorority

    -Collegiate Organizations (non-Greek)

I would like more information on TSM.  Who do I contact?

Direct all questions, speaking tour, media inquires, and interview inquires to:

Shelly Marie Redmond, MS, RD, LDN

    Executive Director/CEO College Lifestyles

    info@collegelifestyles.org

Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.

    Intern Dish – Dessert Anyone?

    September 30, 2010 by
Filed under CL ExCLusives!, The Dish, The Intern Dish, Weekly Dish

‘Sugar and Spice with Everything Nice!’ I must say a great description for the classy ladies of College Lifestyles, and this week, I wanted to dive into the sweet side of our interns.  Desserts are a part of our life!  If we are enjoying alone or with our ‘besties,’ desserts always bring a warm smile to our face and a warm fuzzy to our hearts!  (And of course, I divulge my favorite dessert!)

Does your favorite dessert match our interns?

Hazelnut gelato, banana cream pie, or banana nutella crepes mmmm!

    ~Aliza V

Fat Free Vanilla Yogurt with LOTS of sprinkles from Baskin Robbins!

The Intern Dish ~ Have a Slight Obsession? See what the CL Interns are slightly obsessed with…..

    September 19, 2010 by

This month, I asked the CL Interns the ‘curious’ open ended statement, ‘I have a slight obsession with….’

Read on to see who loves True Blood, names their own lap top, sweatshirts, and of course, read at the end my obsession! (and 2 CL Interns have the same obsession!)

I have a slight obsession with MILK!  I can drink milk with any meal at any and every time of day.  I typically drink probably a gallon and a half per week just by myself.  My boyfriend calls me a milk-a-holic and says that some day when we’re married he’s going to buy us a cow so we can save on milk prices in the long run :)

    ~Kelsey

    With pearls and squirrels :)

    ~Sarah F

    High waisted skirts

    ~Cristine L

    PopChips

    ~Jacqui

Headbands.  I actually have a collection of them by now.

    ~Lana

I have a slight obsession with The Twitter. Generally, if my phone is in my hands, I’m tweeting via text. Follow me! @HeyYoBecky. I also can’t live without Diet Coke, music, Catch Phrase, artichokes, the movie Fear, anchors, Boxers or Briefs and my latest obsession The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins (thank you, Kaitlyn)! :-)

    ~Becky

I have a slight obsession with…sushi! I have it at least once a week but would eat it everyday if i could. I even had a chef try to teach me how to make it once!

    ~Christine K

I have a slight obsession with a lot of things, but one of my biggest obsessions right now is the TV show True Blood! I love how every episode leaves you with a huge cliffhanger at the end, always leaving you wanting more!

    ~Dana S

I have a slight obsession with trying on new makeup looks.  Emulating styles that I like from magazines is a hobby of mine.  While I can do a neutral look or a simple smoky eye, playing with unusual colors, like purples or metallics, is always more fun!

    ~Meredith

I have a slight obsession with…sweatshirts!  Three years ago when I was a freshman in college I counted how many sweatshirts I had and it was pushing 75.  Now I must have over 100 sweatshirts.  I cant help but buy sweatshirts all the time.  Every time I go shopping I am bound to buy a sweatshirt whether its in the summer or the winter. :)

    ~Steph C

I am slightly obsessed with online shopping. I am NEVER not a size 6

in shoes and clothing almost always fits when I order online! Its not

exactly a healthy obsession but I am obsessed with the fact that I can

lay in bed and shop! It probably stems from my laziness! Don’t get me

wrong I love walking malls too but online shopping gets me

every time! And I am a very skilled online shopper. I never buy

something without a coupon code or promotion code so I always have a

discount that I probably wouldn’t be able to get in the store!

    ~Erin P

I have a slight obsession with………..meeting new people. Anaïs Nin describes it the best, ”Each friend represents a world in us, a world not possibly born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”

    ~Sara N

    Peanut butter

    ~Leslie C

I have a slight obsession with watching the Real Housewives of… shows.  If I had to pick one that I watch the most, it would be the New Jersey housewives.  Talk about drama!  I love watching drama take place on television because it gives the show substance, however, I think in my like, drama is a complete waste of time.  People that love being drama should pick up a better hobby.  (It’s just not flattering)

    ~Sam C

I have a slight obsession with the Twitter, coffee and the chocolate/peanut butter combo!

    ~Kaitlyn K

Currently I have a slight obsession with my sorority!

    ~Alyssa

    I have a slight obsession with…….. 90s music. I just can’t let it go

    ~Audrey

I have a slight obsession with…………. the color TURQUOISE! It’s the perfect color because its fun, vibrant and eye-catching, without being overpowering. As you can image, I always wear turquoise jewelry (and I just bought a fabulous, new turquoise purse), have surrounded myself with turquoise room decor and am a frequent visitor to the site http://www.everythingturquoise.com/.

    ~Maryn

SUSHI. eat it everyday like 3 times a day. no joke. xxxx

    ~Aliza

My laptop. I’ve even named him: DaVinci. And I get withdrawal symptoms when I haven’t been able to check my email or anything in a while. Classes where laptops are prohibited are the death of me!

    -Kathryn

Discovering new YouTube videos to share with friends!

    ~Kristin

OPI nail polish.  I always have my nails painted, and OPI sells so many amazing colors.  It lasts for such a long time, too!

    ~Deirdre

I have a slight obsession with LADY GAGA. :)

    ~Briana

    The smell of old books.

    ~Alexandra

Georgia Football, my dog, accessories, and shoes :)

    ~Abby B

My iPhone! My music and all my connections to the outside world in one neat little package. lol

    ~Kat

    DIET COKE

    ~Kendall

Evian water and anything nautical looking!

    ~Samantha

Shelly Marie Redmond, MS, RD, LDN is the Executive Director/CEO of College Lifestyles.  She has a slight obsession with dark chocolate, Sharpie fine tip pens/markers, fabulous manners, great stilettos, and Tory Burch flats.

The CL Interns Dish, ‘My favorite decade is…..’

This week, I decided gave the CL Interns an opportunity to jump into a time machine to take them to their favorite decade!

When asked, ‘What is your favorite decade?’  I received these fabulous responses……

My favorite decade is the 80′s! I wish I could have lived in them (other than the 6 months I did). I love the fashion and music, especially the clothes! I love parties and Halloween when I can dress up in 80′s clothes!

    ~Alle

My favorite decade is the 90s because it produced such crazy fashion and fun TV shows!

    ~Emily H

My favorite decade is the ‘60s. I love all of the fashions that came out of the decade, which also probably explains why I like watching Mad Men so much. :)

    ~Jacqui

My favorite decade is the ‘70s…the music and musical geniuses that came out of that era (James Morrison, The Who, The Rolling Stones, etc…) make me wish that I was around to see it all happen!  Also, although I don’t think I could pull it off, the hippie look really intrigues me!

    ~Megan

The 50s tops my list of favorite decades! I love their simplistic style and the “housewife” looks.

    ~Sarah

Favorite Decade: The 60′s baby! A decade focused on music, love and the expansion of creativity, what could be better? Good people looking for a good time, the way life should be lived!

    ~Kate

My favorite decade is the 90s, of course!  I miss the days of playing Donkey Kong on the Super Nintendo and being totally creeped out by ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’  I would have traded all of my Babysitters Club books for a chance to be on ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’ or to meet the cast of ‘The Mighty Ducks’ or ‘The Sandlot.’  I would go back to the ’90s any day… NOT! Talk to the hand! ;)

    ~Kaitlyn K

Oh no! Do I have to pick just one?! =) My favorite decade would probably be the 60s! If I could have been a teenager in the mid to late 60s, I would have wanted my life to be very similar to Meg Pryor’s on the television show “American Dreams.” I could have been a regular on American Bandstand, and I would totally have been at the airport when the Beatles first came across the pond! Besides the music, I also love the fashion of the 60s! Skirts with cardigans, and belted dresses with short white gloves and a clutch purse! So cute and classy! <3

    ~Becky

My favorite decade is the SEVENTIES! I absolutely love the music of the time: The Beatles, Bob Marley, The Eagles, The Who, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and the list goes on and on. Fascinated by the music festivals like WOODSTOCK, I can’t even imagine the energy of such an event. I love everything about the hippie movement: their ideals, free spirit, and way of life. They just seem so free, peaceful and truly did live every moment of life to the fullest. I’m jealous! I wish we could mimic the 70′s today!

    ~Pooja

DEFINITELY the 1920s. All that jazz, flappers, speakeasies. I love the Great Gatsby style and it seemed like so much fun. Fabulous! I think I was alive in the 20s in a past life hahaha.

    ~Briana

My favorite decade is the 1960′s because I’m all about colorful tie-dye and promoting peace : )

    ~Hillary

Although I love the trends and fashions of other decades, I would have to say my favorite decade is the 1920′s. I think the 1920′s was a very profound generation, especially for American culture. People went from the early and simplistic 1900′s lifestyles to the Roaring Twenties, an era that introduced to us jazz music, swing dance, brand new films straight from Hollywood, the broadcasting revolution known as radio, and the empowering role reversal of women! This is a time that women were starting to be recognized just as equal as men, and able to get the same job as them and also enter college…which is when the “co-ed” truly began! How phenomenal is that!

    ~Michelle

My favorite decade is the 60s. I love the tye-die, the peace, love and flower movement. I feel things were a lot more free and things were more widely accepted…I mean, Woodstock?!?! I would have loved to be there. I also feel like neighborhoods and public places were more safe and crime was a lot less. The music rocked, the people rocked and everyone wanted world peace. The civil rights movement was happening, schools were being integrated. That was a huge part of our nation’s history and to be a part of that would be a great experience. I also loved the 70s for pretty much the same reason.

    ~Molly

My favorite decade was the 1960s!  It is my favorite because I love all of the change and revolution!  I also love the fashion, from the hippie-flower child look to Jackie Kennedy.  The music from this decade was also great!  The Beatles are one of my favorite bands!

    ~Kate

My favorite decade is the 60s, because I love the music, the fashion, and
    basically everything about it.

    ~Lana

My favorite decade is the 1950s.  Elvis Presley revolutionized the Rock n’ Roll industry.  Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart and James Dean changed the face of the movie industry, and brought out some now classic films that every generation knows and loves.  Marylin Monroe even expressed the love that all women had for diamonds in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.  The 50s was an iconic period and it embellished beauty like no other decade prior.

    ~Samantha

The 50’s.  Because I absolutely belong in a diner in a big poodle skirt (I know I know, that not all the 50’s were about) but I just love shakes and burgers.  Plus 50’s is when interior spaces for the average person began to take off!

    ~Kendell

My favorite decade is… now! We’ve continued good traditions of previous decades, learned from the mistakes of the past and can enjoy the present. It’s interesting to me to see how technology is changing, and how that affects society and the way we live. I’ve also never really “lived” in another decade… it’s great to be young in a world that’s constantly changing, so I can be a chameleon along with it:)

    ~Jenny

My favorite decade is the 1940s. I have always been fascinated by World War Two and the courage that everyone had during that time is admirable. They cared about style and class but also about practicality and function. The 1940s were a huge time of transition, out of the Great Depression and bringing back the flare of the roaring 20s with a more tactical, dignified approach. Plus everyone seemed to know how to dance, something envied by someone as accident prone and clumsy as myself.

    ~Audrey

My favorite decade is definitely the 80’s. I love the fashion, the music, just the fun spirit people seemed to have during this period. And of course I made it just in time to call myself an 80’s baby (born 1989)!

    ~Chrissy

My favorite decade is really a tie between the 90′s and 2000-2010.  You can’t go wrong with some of the incredible music of the 90′s, and I love the fashion styles of the last decade :)

    ~Kelsey

My favorite decade is the fifites!  Between Gene Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Ava Gardner all making movies, theGolden Age of Broadway, and the prevalence of pearls in television shows, it is pretty much my idea of heaven.

    ~Karen

You heard from some of our CL Interns; now tell us your favorite decade!

Shelly Marie Redmond, MS, RD, LDN is the Executive Director/CEO of College Lifestyles.  She loves getting the ‘dish’ on the CL Interns, and is in love with the classiness and style of the 1940s!  Bring back the Rat Pack and Casablanca!
