A Classy Co-ed’s Guide To Fall Beauty Flare

Let’s face it lovelies it has been a whole year since the leaves started changing colors, and there has been too much on our minds for us to remember what colors should be filling up our make-up bag this season. Here are a few fall beauty flare refreshers on how to look captivating and feel confident with that promises to keep you classy on campus.
Lovely in Red
As the autumn winds blow away summer brights, settle down with a luxurious deep red. Emphasizing sophistication at its finest, Kate Spade and lipstick queen Poppy tag team to bring the kiss of loveliness with the Supercalifragilipstick collection. Match Adventurous Red with pale blush, light eye shadow and minimal foundation, so that the sheer red gives a vibrant, fabulous look perfect for a busy day around campus or a night out with the girls.
Strip Your Lips
If red lips are too out of your comfort zone, worry not. Fall’s neutral trends are carrying over to lip color too. Get nude and stay modern in the cool weather with M.A.C.’s Cherish Lipstick. If you’re brightening up your wardrobe with floral colors (yes, the floral trend is staying for the fall!), the best makeup is simple makeup. Scratch the lady in red lips, strip your lips of color, and go for this fresh and rich, creamy beige. The subtle stick adds the right amount of sophistication, with a sheer, glossy finish that goes on smoothly. The long-lasting light lipstick won’t wash you out and gives full coverage without creasing.
One Man Woman
A major fall beauty trend seen on the runways is monochrome makeup, but being a one-color woman doesn’t dictate drab. CL lovelies, you can dress up your neutral fall closet with subtle hints of color on your eyelids, cheeks and lips. Stila’s Lip & Cheek Stain collection has stylish hues of pinks, purples and oranges, making it perfect for autumn. The multitasking personalized pen reacts to pH levels, forming a tint tailored for you. The collection’s revolutionary formula contains phytonutrients to protect and nourish your skin and plenty of vitamins to moisturize cheeks and lips, resulting in a sheer radiance. This fall, get bold with purple eye shadow and Pomegranate Crush, a deep plum that can simply be blended into your lips and cheeks to create a classy, monochromatic look.
Striking Lashes
A savvy, striking fall trend is emphasizing and dramatizing your lashes. But piling on multiple coats of mascara doesn’t always give that desired doe-eyed effect to catch the cute boy’s attention in Psych 111. Instead of scaring him off with spider lashes and raccoon make-up, skip the liner and go solo with Trish McEvoy’s Lash Curling Mascara in jet black. The formula is not only water-resistant (which is healthier than waterproof) it lasts for hours without smudging. The powerful curler works wonders on each lash; this mascara is best for lashes that have a nice length but have trouble holding a curl. For more volume, try Trish McEvoy’s High-Volume Mascara, which is made to thicken and lengthen each individual lash.
Are any of these fabulous fall flare beauty products already on your shopping list? If not, what are you favorites lovelies?!

Ask a CL Intern Responds: Summer to Fall Fashion Transition Pieces
August 3, 2011 by EricaA

Classy co-eds want to know: What are good transition pieces for fall?
The key to transitioning pieces from summer to fall is to think outside the confinements of your already-made, go-to outfits. Think layering and outerwear. There’s no need to put away your cute sundresses or high-waisted shorts at the first sign of cold weather. Instead combine your summery attire with other pieces to make new fashion-forward fall looks. Here CL gives you 5 cute summer to fall transition outfits. We chose summer’s favorite trends and mixed them up to bring you outfits that work all year long.
- Crop Top: Summer’s go-to top becomes fall’s favorite basic tee. Pair it with light skinny jeans, a colored cardigan and a pair of boots. Layer on nature-inspired necklaces to continue summer’s bohemian trend.
- Maxi Dress: Cute, comfy and perfect for every occasion–hot or cold. Wear it with a jean jacket, statement belt, gold earrings, cream-colored patterned socks and chunky sandals.
- Jean Shorts: Pull a Miley and wear them with tights. Choose frayed jean shorts and black patterned tights for the ultimate grunge/chic look. Add a loose sweater and slouchy boots. Layer on gold or silver accessories for a touch of shine.
- Neon: A little color goes a long way. The right way to wear this trend for the fall is to keep the neon to a minimum and wear it with neutral colored clothing. Try a neon pink top with with dark jeans, a tan leather jacket and feather earrings.
- LWD: Wear this in place of your beloved fall LBD for an original look. Wear it with black opaque tights, patent leather high heels and a trendy blazer. Add a colorful clutch and statement ring that fits your personal style.
Is it Summer or is it Fall? In Between Weather Dressing
October 12, 2010 by LeslieC

Ahhh October, a month of crunching through leaves on your way to class, college football, and 80-degree weather? At least in my region of the country it feels like an indian summer with chilly mornings giving way to warm afternoons. There is nothing worse than sporting a thick knit sweater when the temperature climbs and you’re stuck running from class to class. Luckily there is a solution to the conundrum of between seasons dressing!
Layers are the most practical and easiest way to stay cool or warm up. They also minimize the number of times you think about changing your outfit throughout the day! Those cold fall mornings may tempt you to reach for your coziest sweater, but remember, if the forecast says the high is 80-degrees you will regret that choice later. Try a simple t-shirt, cardigan, and a scarf for added warmth. This is any easy and timeless look that can be pulled off with items you already own.
Tights are another great way to add warmth, but they are not too stifling for balmy afternoons. Tights are also a great way to add interest and a little style to an otherwise bland look. Throw some on under your favorite skirt or dress and you’re golden. The best part about tights is their affordability; you can find them at places such as Target for under ten dollars, and they come in an array of colors, patterns, and textures.
Blazers are perfect for in between seasons dressing! They come in all kinds of colors making it easier to choose according to your personal preference. There is bound to be the perfect blazer for you. Blazers are one of the easiest ways to add warmth to any outfit, slip it on top of jeans and a t-shirt, a dress, or even a cardigan if its extra chilly outside. The Gap has a great selection of classic jackets perfect for in-between weather.
Footwear is a vital point when choosing an in-between weather ensemble. It’s definitely too cool to wear flip-flops and summers cute sandals, but is it too warm for boots? A rule of thumb to use if its 70 degrees and below boots are your friend. If you will be running around in 80-degree weather all day, boots might not be appropriate or comfortable.
When it comes down to it, in-between weather dressing is all about comfort and function. Dressing smartly in layers you can peel off is key and your best ally in beating the afternoon warm up. So get out there classy co-eds, and face the in between seasons with confidence!

The Perfect Pair of Fall Boots
September 21, 2010 by LeslieC

Fall is right around the corner, and before you know it walking to class will entail crunching through leaves, bundling up in thick sweaters, and sipping large thermoses of hot coffee. Boots are a quintessential item for fall fashion, but sometimes finding the perfect boot to keep you toasty and stylish can be time consuming. From ankle booties to equestrian classics, the options are endless. The key to finding your perfect boot is staying true to your style aesthetic. With this in mind, I am here to bring you a look at some of my favorite options for fall boots!
Ankle booties are very versatile, perfect for the college girl with a million activities, classes, and meetings to attend. Worn with skinny jeans and a sweater for class, ankle boots give an otherwise basic outfit a boost. On those warmer days in the beginning of fall, they are perfect for pairing with a dress for an updated and seasonal look. These black ankle booties by Blowfish are a little bit tough, but still classic. The slight heel gives height but is still appropriate and comfortable for everyday wear.
Wedge boots are a comfort driven girls dream; stylish, flattering, and most importantly comfortable. Dressed up or dressed down, you will take your look from casual to lively with a cute pair of wedge boots. These Kenneth Cole Reaction wedge boots are classic with a trendy twist. Perfect with a cozy cardigan on a chilly October day.
Kenneth Cole Reaction, $119.00
Equestrian boots are my personal favorite style, versatile and with a flat heel for those rainy fall days. Riding boots are a style classic, and investing in a great pair will pay off for years to come. Mine are my go to staple in my fall wardrobe, and they make throwing outfits together easy and of course cold weather appropriate. This affordable pair of Aerosoles will help elevate any outfit. Throw them on with a button up for a laid-back collegiate look.
Aerosoles, $89.00
Remember boots don’t have to be expensive to be fabulous, look at websites like piperlime.com and zappos.com to help you narrow your search and keep an eye on your budget. Always think quality over quantity, one great pair of boots can take you from this fall and beyond. For ideas on what fall trends to wear with your new boots, check out Samantha C’s piece CL Fall Fashion Reporting for Classy Co-eds! Happy boot hunting!

CL Fall Fashion Report for Classy Co-Eds

With Fall quickly approaching, it will soon be time to bring out all those fabulous warm clothes. Clothes like sweaters, vests, long-sleeve shirts, and boots. If you have a lot of warm clothes that might be a little older, then you might want to update and revamp your wardrobe. If you do, then what better way than to follow the newest fashion trends for Fall 2010!
Thanks to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, many designers expressed what the newest trends for this fall were going to be. It was a broad array of categories, but all of them are worth looking into.
SPECIFIC TOUCHES FROM THE 50s
This fall is all about drawing inspiration from the past. Designers like Louis Vuitton and Giles are incorporating thicker straps, below-the-knee skirts, bustier and curve-hugging dresses all to accentuate the hourglass silhouette.
The best place to find reasonable priced decade inspired clothing is through ModCloth. They have great dresses, coats, shoes, pants, skirts, tops, and even a few rompers. Go check it out!
FUR… AND FAUX FUR
Fur is in yet again. Faux fur jackets, vests, handbags, everything you can think of. Wearing a fur vest with a fitted long-sleeve shirt, skinny jeans and a great pair of boots make for the perfect casual outfit. Want to make it a tad fancier? Pick up that great chocolate brown knee-length dress, a long-sleeved neutral fur coat and a killer pair of heels. This look is sure to rock anyone’s world.
WILD LEOPARD ACCESSORIES
My personal favorite is the continuation of Leopard print accessories. As an animal print guru, I am super excited about this trend! Besides, who doesn’t love rocking a little black dress with those 4 inch leopard print kitten heels? I know I do!
NEUTRAL ACCESSORIES
If you are not into the bold statement of leopard, then you should steer towards the trend of Neutral Accessories. Think browns, tans, creams, anything that could mellow out the bright colors. If you accessorize with neutrals then it allows for the rest of your outfit to pop.
HEAD-TO-TOE HUES
Another trend that has fall written all over it is lots of color. Color, color, color! Did I mention color?
Designers like Tory Burch have taken full advantage of using color from head-to-toe. In one of her runway looks, she sent a model out in an orange sweater and skirt with matching lipstick and leggings. Are you noticing a trend yet?
MENSWEAR FOR WOMEN
Looking for a classy and sophisticated way to show off at the office or your internship? Then tailored pants and blazers are the way to go. This fall the look of clean lines, and business-like colors are all the rage for women. They are not only clean-cut, but they’re warm too. These fabulous tailored pieces are no longer for the men.
SOLID GOLD… SOLID GOLD
This trend is all about looking like you cost a fortune. Anything gold! It’s just that simple. Designers like Diane Von Furstenburg, Jason Wu and Balman’s Christophe Decarnin have all added fun accents of gold to their fall collections. Everything from gold lined cardigans, to all over gold fabrics.
With all of these options, you are sure to find the perfect way to dress up your closet. If you don’t find something that interests you from this season, then at least you should find inspiration.
No matter what trends you love this season, just be sure to pair them correctly. After all style is everything. It was Coco Chanel that said “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”
