The Academy Awards are full of glitz, glamour and hours upon hours of awards and acceptance speeches. Most of us enjoy watching the red carpet and checking out the gowns, but what can we take away from it? It’s not like we can all wear a ball gown in every day life. All of us here at College Lifestyles know the importance of being able to get inspired by the fashion we see and love. That being said, I have morphed the wonderful fashion we saw on Oscar night into everyday wear for the chic college girl!
Loose Curls/Simple Up-dos

from ew.com
We can take some advice from Supporting Actress Nominee, Anna Kendrick, and wear our hair in loose curls. Loose curls look awesome with your hair down or in a simple up-do! Anna definitely did it right because she didn’t fall into the trap of “looking too old” with her Elie Saab gown and beautiful up-do! You can check out intern Liz’s post on hair accessories to see a headband that will look great holding back those curls!
Embellishments

from ew.com
Cameron Diaz looked stunning in her embellished Oscar de la Renta gown. We can transform this look into everyday wear by rocking the embellished tank top or flats! You’ll notice that Cameron takes the subtle route by wearing embellishments that are in the same color scheme as her dress–follow this path!

Ruffles

from ew.com
Elizabeth Banks and her Versace gown show us how to do ruffles the right way! Pay attention to how the ruffles are not overly voluminous or multi-colored (cough, Zoe Saldana, cough). We can wear this look in the real world with accessories (I have a pair of awesome ruffled heels!) or piping on a dress!

Pale is the New Tan

from ew.com
Kristen Stewart in a lovely navy Monique Lhuillier gown shows us that pale is, in fact, the new tan! There is nothing sexy about skin cancer girls! Lather up with that sunscreen and be proud of that pale skin. Previous intern, Kristin, gave us some excellent sunscreen tips. Check them out and be sure to follow them.
Prints

from ew.com
Rachel McAdams took a chance with her watercolored Elie Saab gown… and I think it paid off! I think the light colors in the print make all the difference. This trend is easy to follow this spring. Look for interesting prints and pretty color combinations!

Red Lips

from ew.com
Sandra Bullock looked amazing in her Marchesa gown paired with fabulous red lips. Once again, intern Liz showed us all we need to know about rockin’ the red lip. Be sure to pick a shade of red that complements your skin tone. Have a warm skin tone? Go for a wine red lipstick! Also, a “brick red” should look good on everyone.
What were some of your favorite Oscar looks? I thought there were some amazing “hits” this year and a few “misses.” Let us know your thoughts in the comments section or e-mail us at intern@collegelifestyles.org!

Great finds girly!
Great looks and great tips Kaitlyn. I especially love the ruffles! Just got a ruffle-neck tank from Old Navy that is really cute. Thanks for the great article!
